3rd Annual Photo Club Team Shootout Announcement
The North Georgia Camera Club Council is pleased to announce that the third annual
North Georgia Photo Club Team Shootout will be held on October 23, 2010, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This year, the Shootout will be hosted by the Rome Photo Club at the Berry College, Martha-Berry Highway, Rome, GA .
As many of you know, in September of 2008 the Cherokee Photography Club initiated the Photo Club Team Shootout as a way of bringing together members of photography clubs from all over North Georgia for a day of fun, photography, camaraderie, and competition in beautiful downtown Canton. Since then, the North Georgia Camera Club Council has been formed to conduct and promote fun and educational events throughout the photographic community in North Georgia. The Rome Photo Club is proud to host this year’s Shootout on the beautiful campus of Berry College and downtown Rome.
As evident from the title, this is an event for camera clubs. It is not open to individual
photographers. All current members in good standing are welcome to participate through their respective clubs.
In the Shootout, participating clubs will compete to see who can create, process, and submit the best images in each of five (to-be-determined that day) categories----all in one day! After finding out what the five categories will be, participants from each club will first take the best images they can for each category, then download and process those images. Members of each club will have to decide among themselves which are the strongest images in each category. They will then submit them to the judges. Later that afternoon, after judging is complete, awards will be presented to individuals for the best images in each category. Then points based on all images submitted by each club in each category will be totaled to determine the winning clubs.
While the judges are deliberating, participants will have time to visit vendors and sponsors, get their camera sensors cleaned, attend informative presentations, talk photography, shoot some more, learn about PhotoShop, and meet fellow photographers from other clubs.
This will be a day to remember.
R elatively new to photography? Great! This is a great way to learn how others approach a shoot, and to get some one-on-one help with your photography. All participants will get immediate feedback on their images, which is invaluable. And who knows, even first-timers might create the images that win that category for their club!
More experienced? Great! This is a great way to test photography skills in as many as
five categories in a short time. You’ll have to focus quickly (pun intended) on the tasks at hand. And you’ll be able to see how your fellow shooters did with the same subjects and the same time constraints, which will help expand your vision. It will also be a great time to help less experienced photographers learn to see and capture better images. Believe it or not, you’ll get even more out of helping them than they will!
Everyone will get a goody bag from our sponsors. There will be plenty of incredible door
prizes, too. There will also be prizes for the best images in each category, and prizes for the winning clubs.
Cost: Entry fee for each club is $300. Each club will determine how that fee will be collected.
Where to meet: Here is the street address, which you can use with Mapquest or for your GPS: Berry College - 2277 Martha Berry Hwy NW, Mount Berry, GA 30149, (706) 232 5374
What about food?: Food will be available for purchase nearby. A map of the locations of
nearby restaurants will be available to participants.
Schedule for the day: Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. At 8:30 a.m., there will be a quick introduction, including the random drawing of the five categories. The shooting spree (sounds dangerous!) will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Starting around noon, clubs will need to choose, process, and resize the ten best images in each of the five categories so they can be submitted for judging by 2:00 p.m. From 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., the judges will be hard at work. Everyone else will have time to visit the vendors and sponsors for their demonstrations, equipment displays, sales, and camera cleaning.
Those who prefer may use this time to continue to explore and shoot by themselves or
with friends (including new friends). It can also be another great opportunity for more experienced shooters to work with more novice photographers. Regardless of photographic experience, it can also be a good time for everyone to join some good discussions about Photoshop or photography.
At 4:00 p.m., there will be the introduction of the judges, followed by a slide show of all
the submissions from each club. This will be followed by presentation of the awards.
Door prizes will be drawn every hour up to and including the slide presentation. And,
yes, you must be present to win.
All the events of the day should be done by 5:30 p.m.
